Fall Newsletter

This is a link to an example of a newsletter from letterpop.com. This is a tool you could use in your classroom and send out to parents, weekly or monthly. Very easy to create, a little tricky publishing it...but a neat, FREE tool nonetheless.

Track Alumni Tailgate

My dad ran track at K-State back in the 70's and created some lifelong friendships. He organized a small alumni track reunion with guys he ran with. Two of his closest friends came, one living in Kansas City and one from California. They had a great time telling old stories and reliving their college experience. It really made me appreciate the memories I've made at K-State and hope to have the same reunions with old friends, when I get older. It was a fun filled weekend with lots of old friends and good food. The weather ended up being really nice and it was overall a great weekend, minus the Cats losing. We had a great tailgate including egg casserole, pigs in a blanket, fruit salad and bagels. It was cool when we first got there, but ended up being perfect, minus the wind, by the end of the game.

A mid-week update

Ahhhh, I'm getting a bit overwhelmed with all the school work. We have lots of things to add to our website and listen to podcasts. So many things to do and so little time. This weekend, my parents will be in town for the game and we're having a big tailgate...so my saturday is shot. I am going home next weekend to see Matt, YAY, but need to get everything done before I leave. I am anxious to get back in the schools but not ready to finish my unit before that happens.

My thoughts for today...

Well another school week is in the books. It is scary to think how soon finals will be here. Why is it that every semester flies by even faster than the one before? I have been overwhelmed this week with the work load we've had in our classes. There are so many assignments...and so little time. I am ready to be back in the schools...and start teaching. Just trying to take one day at a time and get through the assignments due that day. Actually enjoyed the cemetery field trip...it was a perfect day to be outside.

I'm excited for the weekend as I am headed to KC to visit friends and contribute to the cure for cancer by participating in the Crawl for Cancer in Westport! On another personal note, I REALLY hope the 'Cats can play well in Texas. They need a win more than ever.

Hope to have a productive weekend and try and get caught up on Block B assignments...if that is even possible.

So long for now...

All about me

Having a job that I love going to everyday and where I can make a difference are both very important to me. My husband Matt is a fire fighter, which is something he is very passionate about. It is a job he looks forward to everyday. I feel that I have found a new career with teaching, where I can feel the same way.

I graduated from Kansas State in 2005 with a BS in Public Relations. Upon graduation, I got married and started looking for a job in the PR field. After several jobs in a corporate setting, I had a change of heart and decided to go back to school for teaching. I have always enjoyed working with kids, but never thought I would make a career out of it until I began substitute teaching for USD 501 in Topeka, Kansas. Through my substituting experiences, I saw the power and impact a teacher can have on each student.

I am an avid K-State fan and love to watch sports, especially when the ‘Cats’ are playing. I am originally from Fort Worth, Texas but followed in my parent’s foot steps to K-State, where I met my husband. I have a younger sister who will also graduate this May in advertising. Matt and I lived in Kansas City through September 2008 until he accepted a job with the Fort Worth Fire Department. I am excited to be moving back home and eventually teaching in my home state.

As I finish my last semester of classes on campus and anticipate a semester of student teaching, I am eager about what lies ahead of me over the next year. I am anxious to absorb as much information as I possibly can before obtaining my own classroom next fall. I enter this endeavor knowing that teaching is an ever-evolving profession which fosters a lifetime of learning.
